Cross-Country has become extremely popular at MPS over the years. During term two, senior, junior students and baby brother and sisters arrive at school EXTRA early to join in the before school Cross-Country training sessions. Activities include elastics, skipping rope and ball games. The Mums and Dads often join in too, showing off their skills and talents.
How many laps did you do in one session ? Please add your comment below.
20th May 2008 CROSS-COUNTRY REPORT by R.P. A.B. E.P.
Cross-Country preparation started during our PE lessons, when we all took part in a middle distance time trial. Then each Wednesday morning during the month of May children of all ages (Prep – Grade 6) were invited to come to school extra early and run as many laps as they could in 40 minutes. After four weeks the team was selected.
We all arrived at Bald Hill Park. Many students were very nervous because they had not been to a Cross-Country before. The first thing everyone did was set up their picnic rugs. Sitting in groups was a great way to keep warm. Before the races started all participants walked to the top of the hill and the organisors explained the running track for 9-10yo (2km) and 11-13yo (3km) Our MPS team seemed to get through their races OK.
Oakleigh Greek College won the 2008 BDPSSA Cross-Country and Murrumbeena came fifth. Everyone in the Murrumbeena team did a great job. The MPS 11yo girls were runner-up in their division and received a pennant.
Well done to everyone who made the extra effort and got up early to join the training sessions. We hope you will join us again in 2009.
