HOCKEY
Last Thursday 15 students participated in the first ever Murrumbeena school hockey team. The weather was really cold and windy. It was great to see many existing hockey players as well as many who where giving it a go for the first time. In the morning we practised our skills such as dribbling, passsin gand shooting. In the afternoon we played games. Everyone showed courage, skill and most of all; perseverance because when the opposition scored a goal we got straight 'back on the horse' and came straight back at them.

'A' TEAM by L.M. & R.H.
Our first game was against Oakleigh South, they were really tough, but we had good defence and stopped them from getting any goals. Our good team work helped us to get goals. Final score MPS win 2 / 0. Our second games was against Oakleigh Greek College. They hit the ball really hard but we matched it with our good trapping. Final score 1 / 1 draw. We played Coatesville in our third game. They did long passes and good attack. We managed to stopthem from getting any goals. We won 3 / 0. Our fourth game was against St Peters. They had many really good players. We matched their skills and team work. Final score was 1 / 1 draw. We played St Pauls in the fifth game. We blocked their goals and wond 2 / 0 Our final game was against St Andrew's. We continuedto play well and won 1 / 0. We were very happy with our effort throughout the day and played really wel. St Paul's won the competition and was the only team to beat us. We had lots of fun and scored 9 goals, finishing the day with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss

'B' TEAM by A.M. & J. H.
Our first game was a draw Oakleigh South - 0 MPS - 0. Game two was a close game too, but we lost 0 / 1 to Oakleigh Greek College. We bounced back against Coatesville and won 5 / 0. We were unable to score and it was a tough game against St Peters. We lost 2 / 0. We had many opportunities to score but lost 2 / 0 Vs St Pauls. Our final game was a draw 1 / 1 St Andrews. We swapped around playing in different positions throughout the day - it was fun. It was fantastic to see the improvement in all the MPS players skills and team work.

Wednesday 12 November, 14 boys participated in the Victorian Primary School Rugby League Championships. It was a very hot day, but we came prepared with lots to drink and had been hydrating ourselves over the previous 24 hours. There were 38 teams in the championships this year and the quality of teams was significantly stronger than last year. We had a tough start and lost our first game Vs Lilydale. We played better with each game, despite the building heat. Our second game was a narrow loss to the current VPSSA Champions - Mandama. The improvement continued and we got our first win Vs Greythorne and finished with a draw Vs Highton C.C. We had heaps of fun in the sun and encourage our Year 5 and 6 students to have a go next year.

BASKETBALL - Girls Our second game Vs St Paul's. It was a very hard game as we St Paul's have a great team. Our MPS team did their best but lost 15 / 30. At the end of the day the girls were still very happy to have made it to the finals and finish fourth on the ladder. Many thanks to Mrs Pickering for coaching us.

VOLLEYBALL - Girls Final 16 October The team trained for a while in the morning. We practised our digs, setting and serving in teams. We travelled by bus to Oakleigh South Primary School. Our first game was against St Andrew's. We were all really fired up and were ready for a close game. We worked really hard, as a team, and as a reward for that, we won the game (3 / 2 sets). We were very excited to be playing in the grand final.
GRAND FINAL - MPS Vs St Peter's. We had a long wait between games and all the girls were gettting tired, but we didnt give up or loose hope. In all the games, we played, we managed to hang-on and never gave up. In the final we had strong digs and served well throughout the five sets. We worked well as a team and encouraged each other. Unfortunately we didnt win, St Peters were too strong for us. 3 / 2 sets.

CRICKET FINALS 16 October - Cricket B played Coatesville in the first wemi-final. We won the toss and elected to bowl. MPS started well, with a wicket from Kelly in the first over, soon followed by a great over from Oscar, including a 'caught and bowled' Later in the game Nick continued the bowling pressure and picked up two great wickets. Well done Sam and Edwin, their fielding saved many runs. Ben made a special contribution by getting a 'run-out' Coatesville all out for 16. Batting satarted equally well with Nic smashing 21 runs and his partner Mathew also contributing a further 9 runs. At the end of our innings Murrumbeena had made 79 runs.
MPS winners by 63 and now into the grand final.
GRAND FINAL - We went into the grand final against a strong St Pter's team. We lost the toss and batted first. Unfortunately our wickets 'dropped like flies' and both openers were out by the end of the second over. Fortunately things improved and Sam and Nic made a dazzling 18 furns. Jordan came in afterwards, hitting a score of 10 runs. We made 57 runs in all. Our bowling started brilliantly, Matthew's delivery getting a wicket and the team combining well to get three 'run-outs'. Stephen and Nic also got important wickets and Brett fielded brilliantly at fine-leg. Sam also did a great job wicket-keeping in both games. St Peter's were all out for 38.
Murrumbeena B Team are the BDPSSA Premiers.
Many thanks to Mr Pollock for coaching us.

Hi Miss Wall;
C. showed me this wonderful past pupils page and thought I might share somthing with you. You don't have to put it on but I won the Leagues Best and fairest for my league this year; Moorabin Saints Junior Football League's U13's West Best and Fairest. It's like the Brownlow. I won it by 8 votes. I polled 25 votes.
I'll probably be able to come to the Rugby Gala Day in November; and H.J. might come as well I'll talk with you soon
Regards L.L.
